n 1964, Ira Kostelitz ordered a monumental mosaic as well as the two sculptures Bird and Fish to decorate her Parisian residence, from Marc Chagall. Some forty years later, Ira’s husband offered these works to Léonard and Annette Gianadda who exhibited them in the Park of Sculptures of the Pierre Gianadda Foundation. An identical pavilion has been reconstituted in the Gardens to accom-modate the Chagall Court for all time. This exceptional gift will help embellish the Foundation Park, a true panorama of the sculpture of the XX century.
It is the first mosaic of the Foundation Collection, but also the arrival of a new and prestigious artist, Marc Chagall, in the already famous Pantheon of the Park of Sculptures.
Chagall’s works include very few mosaics. This one, shown for the first time in public, was inaugu-rated on 19 November 2003, the 25th anniversary of the Foundation.
Could one ever have imagined of a more beautiful gift on this occasion? |
